What it's for

Short sessions with games you already know. It turns on fast, it fits in a pocket, and there's nothing between pressing power and playing.

What's good

• Instant. Seconds from off to playing.
• Genuinely portable. Jacket pocket, not bag.
• Battery lasts. Comfortably a day of intermittent use.
• No ongoing cost. Nothing to subscribe to.

What isn't

• It's not a modern console. It won't run current releases and isn't trying to.
• Later systems are demanding. More complex hardware is emulated less perfectly than earlier generations.
• The screen is small. That's the trade for the size.

Who should skip it

If you want current-generation games, or you already play emulators on a phone with a controller and are happy with that, this won't change your life. It's for people who want a dedicated thing that does one job without asking anything of them.
