Black Screen: Fixes

A black screen on power-up is nearly always the card, not the console. Work through these in order.

1. Confirm it has power

Plug it in and leave it 30 minutes. A fully flat battery shows nothing at all for the first few minutes of charging. Check for a charge indicator light.

2. Reseat the card

Power off fully. Eject the card, check the contacts are clean and dry, and push it back in until it clicks.

3. Force a restart

Hold the power button for 10 seconds, release, then press it again normally.

4. Try the backup card

If your bundle included a second card, swap it in. If the console boots from the backup, the first card has failed and we'll replace it.

5. Check the screen, not the console

In a dark room, look closely at the screen with the console on. If you can see a very faint image, it's the backlight — turn brightness up with the hotkey.
